Phnom Penh, March 19, 2024 – Cambodia and Thailand have pledged to bolster their economic connectivity through enhanced infrastructure, trade, investment, and tourism. This commitment was outlined during discussions between Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) President Hun Sen and Paetongtarn Shinawatra, President of Thailand’s Pheu Thai Party, at Phnom Penh's 7th January Palace.

During their meeting, Hun Sen detailed Cambodia's economic transformation post the Democratic Kampuchea era, highlighting the country's journey from conflict to development zones and transforming the border area into a zone of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development.

Paetongtarn Shinawatra's visit to Cambodia, spanning March 18-19, came at the invitation of Hun Sen. This visit aims to foster the bond between the two ruling parties, strengthening the framework of friendship and collaboration that exists between the neighboring countries.

"The visit aims to further the cooperation of neighboring countries and to build upon the ‘strategic partnership’ established during Prime Minister Hun Manet’s official visit to Thailand in February 2024,” according to a CPP press release.

In addition to her talks with Hun Sen, Shinawatra also engaged in courtesy meetings with other Cambodian dignitaries, including Say Chhum, Senate President, and Cheam Yeap, First Vice President of the National Assembly. She also had discussions with young CPP leaders who hold positions in both the Royal Government and Parliament, such as Deputy Prime Minister Hun Many, a member of the CPP’s Standing Committee and Minister of Civil Service.

The Pheu Thai Party's high-level delegation plans to visit historical sites in Phnom Penh, including the Choeung Ek Extermination Centre and the Win-Win Memorial, to deepen their understanding of Cambodia's complex history and the Win-Win Policy that has been pivotal in securing the nation's peace, stability, and development.
